What is AMP?
AMP technology, or Accelerated Mobile Pages, was introduced to Google Search Console in January 2016 and remains relatively unknown among Polish users. By using it, we can tailor website content to screen resolution and size, which enhances loading speed and browsing ease. This feature is primarily designed for companies with static websites. Thanks to AMP, content becomes available to users almost instantly.
The Three Components of AMP
- AMP HTML – extensions and guidelines for HTML code. This code has been simplified to help developers avoid coding issues that slow down page loading. It allows the creation of rich content using basic HTML code, such as news articles. As a result, existing content meets the requirements of mobile pages. It does not require new rendering engines – user applications can render AMP HTML.
- AMP JS – JavaScript libraries that enable resources on the page to load instantaneously.
- AMP CDN – an additional component responsible for delivering AMP-based HTML pages.
How Does AMP Technology Work?
Accelerated Mobile Pages work in all modern browsers, just like any HTML-based page. Their operation relies on storing the entire subpage in the cloud or cache of a third party, such as Google’s cache. Therefore, AMP works only with static pages. When opening a link leading to a page actively using the acceleration feature, you will be redirected to a site hosted under a Google address.
It is worth emphasizing that Accelerated Mobile Pages is a completely free solution. Alongside Google, major platforms such as Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and WordPress collaborate on developing this project. In January 2017, Cloudflare also officially joined the initiative.
Benefits of Using AMP
The number of websites using accelerated page technology is still quite small. Sites employing AMP are marked with a special icon (a lightning bolt symbol) in mobile search results. As a result, pages load very quickly, which leads to higher conversion rates and a positive user experience. Additionally, your site gains greater visibility – Google ranks the article higher than organic results. Why is acceleration so important? Because the average user leaves websites that take longer than 3 seconds to load. It’s truly a race against time!
